John C. Davis is a Managing Shareholder at Davis & Poovey, Inc. (formerly Dunaway & Davis, Inc.) and is involved in all the practice areas of the firm. Mr. Davis has practiced law in Humboldt County for more than 34 years.

Mr. Davis is certified as a specialist in Family Law by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. He was also an instructor in Family Law at College of the Redwoods. He is a highly-skilled practitioner with vast experience in the family law arena. Acclaimed for his professional and calming approach, John has become well known and highly respected in the legal community for his problem solving abilities and keen advocacy skills. James D. “Butch” Poovey is a Managing Shareholder with Davis & Poovey, Inc., and is involved in all of the practice areas of the firm. He has practiced law in Humboldt County for more than 28 years.

Mr. Poovey is certified as a specialist in Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. He is one of only three attorneys so certified in that area of law in Humboldt County and one of only 797 in the State*. In addition to planning, Mr. Poovey has handled complex trust and probate litigation matters, including numerous will and trust contests. This combination of experience in both estate planning and trust and estate litigation sets Mr. Poovey apart from other attorneys in Humboldt County. He provides clients with knowledgeable insight on avoiding potentially troublesome issues in their estate planning documents.

Mr. Poovey also has extensive experience in business, both planning and litigation, and real property. These areas of law frequently overlap with estate planning.
