James D. “Butch” Poovey is a Managing Shareholder with Davis & Poovey, Inc., and is involved in all of the practice areas of the firm. He has practiced law in Humboldt County for more than 28 years.

Mr. Poovey is certified as a specialist in Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. He is one of only three attorneys so certified in that area of law in Humboldt County and one of only 797 in the State*. In addition to planning, Mr. Poovey has handled complex trust and probate litigation matters, including numerous will and trust contests. This combination of experience in both estate planning and trust and estate litigation sets Mr. Poovey apart from other attorneys in Humboldt County. He provides clients with knowledgeable insight on avoiding potentially troublesome issues in their estate planning documents.
